Mutt and Imap question/Alpine

Will Alpine work with Maildir when I looked on line it 
talked about needing a patch and I wasn't sure how to even 
go about finding it. However I used Pine years ago and if it 
will work with Dovecot imap server using Maildir format I 
would love to use it instead.
