Possibly, except I found a suggestion for a 1 line bash script that works a 
treat.  But to the less experienced bash coder about, that should be useful 
info, thanks.

FWIW, even the search for 'dos2unix' did not find a thing on my machine, 
running 10.04.4 LTS.  Besides, the file in question did not need cleaning 
of surplus linefeed chars, just a translation which "tr '\015' '\012'" did 
rather admirably.
