Ubuntu is getting disappointing.

I'm not seeing that here. I upgraded a very old HP dc7600 (2 x 2.8 GHz
Pentium IV, 2GB's of RAM) from 12.04 to 12.10 & if anything, it's faster
& more reliable. It's running the full Unity 3D also.
You could maybe backup /home & /etc (& whatever else you deem necessary)
& try doing a clean install. That'll probably help.
Also, I've seen very little on the Web, lists, etc about 12.10 causing
any problems...
