OK.  Thanks for the reassurances.  I'll give it a go.  I liked Mate, but
I'm not keen on the Mint policy of re-installing for each new version.
I've been happy with Ubuntu since about ver 4, so Ubuntu+Mate looks to be a
good alternative to Unity.
