remote screen (Ubuntu 12.04) doesn't update

Well with Unity 2D I can now run the remote server.

Now my next problem:
Ideally I'd like to use Unity 3D
However If I ever had to remote access my screen I'd like to switch on 
the fly to Unity 2D (without having to log out)
Is this possible???
