useable desktop-search in 12.04

Another $.02 worth of info.  I am running ubuntu 12.04 and after a lot 
of tweaking I have it looking and acting 99% like 10.04.  I have top - 
left - and bottom panels that I can drag items onto with 12 program 
switchers in the bottom panel.
