Audio processing C library?

I am trying to do some programming in C, manipulating sound files. I
have installed ”libsndfile” from the repositories, so reading and
writing sound files with different formats is fairly easy. However, I
also want to filter the audio signals a bit, cutting some bass
(subsonic filter) and things like that. Is there a nice library for
such things? I couldn't find one in the repositories (using the Ubuntu
Software Center).
