[OT] So you want to be a Linux kernel programmer ...

I promise I'll mention this only once but I figure it will have some
interest to Ubuntu users. I'm currently doing a total rewrite of my
online Linux kernel programming course for total beginners, and while
the later and more advanced parts of the course will be, yes,
subscriber-only, the first several lessons are totally free and will
remain that way.
It's all here:
http://crashcourse.ca/introduction-linux-kernel-programming-2nd-edition/introduction-linux-kernel-programming-2nd-edition
and it takes the total rookie through the procedure of writing,
compiling and loading their very first kernel module. Even if you
have no interest in subscribing for the rest of the course, that alone
should give you hours of entertainment. :-)
Obviously, this isn't exclusive to Ubuntu, it should work with any
sane, current Linux distro, but I chose to focus on a specific distro
just so I could test *everything* and *guarantee* that it works.
Anyway, if you've never written a Linux kernel module before and
want to see what it's like, have at it. And tell your friends. The
more, the merrier.
