annoying GNOME sounds

I disabled all those sounds I don't need, like login / logout sounds. I 
can't tell you how to do it with Gnome as I'm using KDE, but I suppose 
that should be possible with Gnome as well.

Another option would be to change the volume of the original sound files 
using sox with a command like this (untested):

sox infile.ogg outfile.ogg vol 0.1

It would reduce the volume 20dB which should be enough. Afterwards 
rename the outfile.ogg back to infile.ogg.
