They also work for subscripts and superscripts for a small set of
numbers - less than the whole Unicode set of sub/superscripts - so you
can type chemical formulæ ;¬) like H₂0 and CO₂ properly, as well. Same
goes for atomic isotope numbers - ¹²C, for example.
