If you typed cd / you would be sent to the root of the filesystem, which 
is NOT "userland". Just type cd all by itself to get you back to your 
home directory, which is where the directory Downloads is.

About Linux vs Windows, Linux (as UNIX) was on the scene WAY before Bill 
gates stopped sucking his thumb. So, in order to not get sued, Windows 
has had to be the reverse of anything that UNIX sensibly offered. So, 
you may wish to consider that you have been misled by MicroSoft and that 
un-doing the damage to your computer literacy skills will include some 
amount of learning curve pain. I suggest learning Linux just for the joy 
of some get-back, for what was done to your brain that you actually paid 
for, over and over and over, to an ungrateful master.

I mean, they taught you to top post, like that made sense and was 
perfectly acceptable to an English speaking people that doesn't read 
their books backwards! <blinks bewildered> Stick with it and at some 
point the whole thing will make perfect sense. That, or those of us here 
are just stupids beating a dead mule. <grins> Ric
