Generally speaking, no. Software you install via the Ubuntu Software
Centre, Synaptic, apt-get or aptitude are held in locations outside
your home folder. Places like /bin, /usr and /lib will contain files
you have installed. I backup the whole file system on my machines
regularly, rather than just my home directory.

Some people do argue that you probably don't need to do that given the
apps you have installed are probably all in the repository, so you
could reinstall them all in the event of catastrophe.
