12.04 [Print Screen] key not prompting for file location anymore

Probably different shortcut key combos.  I'm guessing Unity, (which is 
Compiz), is using the Compiz gnome compatibility plugin, which includes 
shortcut key bindings (and command.)

Gnome shell, however, must have it's own shortcut key grabbing mechanism.

I don't have a Ubuntu system in front of me to test, but look in the 
Gnome Settings Keyboard dialogue, and there is a tab there for 
Shortcuts, including Screenshots.  Maybe you can disable the gnome 
built-in shortcut then create a new custom shortcut with the command 
line of your choice?
