gimp 2.8

Gimp 2.8 is not  available in official Ubuntu repositories right now, 
but you can install it using PPA which is maintained by a good guy:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gimp

If you have experience with PPA, 3rd party packages and stuff, I don't 
have anything to say. But if you are not, installing 3rd party packages 
may cause some issues, I suggest you to read about PPA before using 
aforementioned commands.
