By the way, the current 'clonezilla live alternative' is based on Ubuntu
12.04. (Precise)

Use the 32bit version, or try the alternative version if you're having
troubles. 

If you created volume groups with LVM during install, clonezilla is forced
to bit-copy. That's one reason I switched to Ubuntu - LVM isn't the default,
so clones are only as large as the used space. Or smaller if using
compression.
