1. Install the ubuntu-restricted-extras package.

(There are variants for the different default desktops, 
xubuntu-restricted-extras, kubuntu-restricted-extras, etc.)

2.: from a command shell, run:
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

3: I personally suggest installing smplayer and vlc-media player.
