It blows up during that magic moment when he tries to render, not while 
he's watching some log file. Rendering is very memory intensive. VERY! 
It's taking several separate streams and combining them into one. 
(rendering) So, he has a video file in memory, a sound track or two in 
memory and they are being smushed into one, with all of the different 
codecs in play at the same time. All in one gig of memory? I don't see 
it happening, not without a LOT of swapping going on. So much so it gets 
lost and blows up. If the OP is going to be doing much of this sort of 
thing, a hardware upgrade is in order.

With a sudden crash, it's doubtful anything had time to be logged.
