Ctrl-alt-backspace

I've been trying to enable ctrl-alt-backspace following the command line
option on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/DontZap?action=show&redirect=DontZap#Using_the_command_line

/usr/bin/setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp
runs fine from the command line, but when I put it in .xinitrc to make it
permanent, it doesn't seem to work.
.xinitrc has -rwxrw-r-- permissions

How do I get it to be permanent? I tried looking for a setting in the menu
system, but couldn't find one. I'm using Xubuntu 11.10
