I think I blew up my own alsa configuration somehow

Funny thing, I have nothing wireless, just two computers, a sat modem 
and several monitors. Since I am left with no clue, except that setting 
it up in the past was completely effortless, I'll see what an audio card 
brings to the situation. I just merely have to turn off the onboard 
audio in the bios. BTW, I tried that and booted and the noise ceased. It 
wasn't present as a device in alsa-mixer, too, just my USB headset 
showed up. So, I think I'm good to go. Outside sources of noise became 
eliminated. Ric
