I realize this entry is a couple of years old, but since it's still showing
up in search results and you were only interested in shutting the guy up
rather then being of any actual use, I felt it necessary to respond myself.
He was asking how to reconnect "if the connection dies", which could be the
one case of the SSH server killing it due to idleness, or anything else in
the world that might interfere with "computer and wires and things".
To answer the original question properly, two things must be said:
1) No. Your console SSH client probably doesn't have a provision for
automatically reconnecting when the connection breaks.
2) You may use "autossh" instead. Not only will it keep tunnels open, but
normal console sessions as well.
For an example, look at
http://pierre.linux.edu/2010/05/setting-up-a-permanent-ssh-tunnel-between-2-servers/
. You essentially run "autossh" instead of "ssh".
Sorry about this guy's personality. He has no business in a discussion forum
if the only thing he desires to do is tell people how stupid they are.
