Unfortunately not, it appears I dropped the knife and stabbed myself
in the foot.  Bug summary not withstanding (I've always wanted to
write that, though I am not 100% sure that is correct usage) it
appears that it did not solely apply to nvidia.  At least the latest
updates have fixed it anyway.

I have been very impressed with the stability of 12.04, with only an
occasional wobble till yesterday, and that has been sorted very
quickly.
