The java project, which is heavily graphical, we use would never run on
OpenJDK6 and we ~had~ to run Sun's java 6. We're getting reports that it
will run on OpenJDK7 which is more closely derived from Oracle Java
JDK7. Plus, 6 did not handle multi-cores at all. 7 will. I've run it
both ways, with a GUI cpu manager running both occcasions. Java 6 wrang
the devil out of one core. With Java 7 I see 3 cores handling the load,
out of 6. I'm a happy camper. That has been my direct experience from
testing.
To me, "Full Java" equals running ant and having a successful build
outcome. One works and one never did. Ergo, the then Sun Java 6 worked,
and OpenJDK lacked what made Sun Java work. Trust me, I'm plenty lazy
enough to rather run from what is in the repos. I do plan on giving
OpenJDK 7 a try again, once I get my faulty power supply replacement
back for my server. :) Ric
