Corruption of first print job after booting.

Since upgrading to 12.04 I have a problem printing to my Canon iP4300
using cups and gutenprint. It was fine before the upgrade.
After powering up, the first print job (and only the first) is messed
up. Usually the first third of a page is printed, often finishing in
the middle (vertically) of a line, a row of dots is printed, a page is
thrown and the print continues, with some data missing.
If I repeat the print it is fine. Also if I just send a print of a
single blank page as the first print of the day then it throws a blank
page and all prints thereafter are ok.
I can't see anything useful in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and searching on
launchpad has not found anything. Has anyone any suggestions on where
to go from here, other than filing a bug which is what I will do if
no-one has any other suggestions.
