It's not much of a benefit to the writer, but mostly to his readers,
particularly including the archive searcher/reader combing for a useful shred
among the mass of search results and useless quoted quoted quoted footer
quotes. It provides a better sense of why and about what the writer is
writing, as well as reduces the noise level, and the next/previous time in
the archives. It's polite, a right and unlazy thing to do.
