Besides that, has anyone else found gmail's new compose interface to
be hard to work with? Among other things, I had to switch back to the
old one be able to edit the subject.

WOW... I definitely have found GMail’s new compose interface to be a little difficult, since I am used to the buttons being elsewhere... It's a large adjustment!

Okay... So I have found out how to edit the subject line - it’s all in that little arrow button next to the subject. Hope this helps, Kevin! Btw, I didn’t know how to do it either until playing around with all of the buttons.
