IOW, over the past decade, "upgrading" has often been equivalent to
downgrading. My thinking is that most developers are replacing old equipment
with new rather than adding new equipment as technology and software evolve.
They can't test on equipment they don't have. So it's up to users of old
equipment and edge configurations to spot and report problems, which is often
too late for those users who are not testing alpha and beta releases.
