Telling aptitude not to remove a package

I am trying to update my Kubuntu 11.10 system [1] but Aptitude insists
that it remove Google Earth, which I depend upon for a project that I
am currently doing. Using Aptitude's 'e' (Examine) command I have
marked the "remove Google Earth" line as 'r' (Rejected) and I see that
it is highlighted in red, but it is still included as part of the
'solution' to resolve dependencies. Will it be removed since it is on
the list? I cannot simply experiment as I need this for work. I would
rather not update (and there is a serious Java vulnerability if I
don't).

Thanks.

[1] Still supported, and no I cannot upgrade to 12.04 please don't
suggest it as a fix.
