Hello,
I have an Ubuntu server 12.04 running on Windows 7 in network bridged mode.
The Internet works fine. The machine is pingable. However it's showing up
on the router as the wrong Mac address.
The machine says:
# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:56:25:58:2d
inet addr:10.0.0.137 Bcast:10.0.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::250:56ff:fe25:582d/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:992 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:80 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:99676 (99.6 KB) TX bytes:10285 (10.2 KB)
Interrupt:19 Base address:0x2000
But the rourter says
# arp
Address HWtype HWaddress Flags Mask
Iface
10.0.0.137 ether 00:23:14:52:9f:18 C
br0
tcpdump reveals that it is even the router (10.0.0.1) is being told the
wrong address:
15:09:25.440473 00:1a:4d:74:fc:b8 > ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff, ethertype ARP
(0x0806), length 42: arp who-has 10.0.0.137 tell 10.0.0.1
15:09:25.442510 00:23:14:52:9f:18 > 00:1a:4d:74:fc:b8, ethertype ARP
(0x0806), length 60: arp reply 10.0.0.137 is-at 00:23:14:52:9f:18
Of course the host windows system sees the correct MAC address
10.0.0.137 00-50-56-25-58-2d dynamic
But the rest of the network does not. Has anybody seen this or know what
steps I could take to fix it?
Thanks
