Sorry, I didn't mention that only root may change that file. So to
modify the file you would need a command like
gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
from a terminal. It will ask for your password to get root privilege and
then you should be able to save the file after modifying it.

Hmm, there may be a problem with my suggestion above. If you are working
from a different account than the user who installed the system, you are
probably not in the admin group and you don't get root privilege anyway.
Then the other person would have to do the modification to the
sources.list file and do the upgrades too because "normal" users (those
who are not in the admin group) are not allowed to change the system.
