Nautilus: How to shrink very wide Name column?

I'm on 10.04 so my observations may not be valid.  When I do what you 
outline a scrollbar becomes visible at the bottom and I can scroll to 
the right and then grab a column border and resize. Also when I open a 
folder with long file names the folder does not expand the file name is 
truncated with ellipses on the end of the name.
