"There has always been a fair amount of lively banter to keep the boredom away."

There is also a lot of "crotchety old man" going on.
Note: Spoken as a 61 year old man with disabling injuries thanks to a drunk driver.

Some of the responses here invoke a mental image of a nearly bald and wizened figure with pants hiked up to mid-chest level, hunched over and peering into a CRT screen through thick bi-focals, hammering madly on a keyboard with two bony fingers while cackling through a set of oversize dentures.

I realize that the image described will not engender the same response in those readers of non-european/western cultures but for our non-occidental friends, be aware that the description is not a flattering one.

Linux wise I am a NOOB, having used it for about 2 years and not really dug deeply "under the hood". The majority of what is posted here goes over my head on a technical level. But, speaking from 6 decades of living permit me to make the following observations.

It is easier to re-read a message before sending off a snappy reply to either give it a polish or tone it down a little than it is to retract a message sent in haste. [The Internet is forever]
Many of the subscribers here are not native english speakers. The thought patterns encouraged by their native tongue may not translate as well as we would like into the thought patterns and logic structures of those of us who speak english as our milk language. It requires extra patience and sometimes multiple rounds of questioning in order to reach the core of a problem when language differences get in the way.

For those asking questions; GOOGLE is your friend. Not only are there a lot of answers available through a simple google search they are also translatable/translated into a language that you may be more comfortable in than english.

For those of you who choose to be offended by my observations, I do not apologize. If the description fits and you are uncomfortable with it then make changes in your self. I'm comfortable with who I am and what my opinions are.

Accidental deaths by firearms account for less than 1% of the 30,000.
There are three times as many medical mistake deaths in the US than
there are accidental gun deaths. Perhaps we need safety locks on
doctors and nurses?
