Thanks for the link. In fact, I experimented the best part of the day, 
and eventually decided not to stick with LTS on the desktop. So I 
replaced Kubuntu 10.04 by Kubuntu 11.04 (with KDE 4.6.5 from PPA), and 
as far as I can tell by now, I have a solid desktop system - with my 
Intel video card working out of the box.
