Hi,
I just installed Kubuntu 10.04 LTS (using the Alternate CD) on a Toshiba
Tecra laptop. After the first reboot, I got a blank screen and the thing
appeared to have frozen. No way to open a text console. I hard-rebooted
it and got to a text login.
Now I remember having setup the same system on an older Fujitsu laptop
that gave me the same troubles with a similar Intel card. So I edited
/etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf like this:
--8<--------------------
options i915 modeset=1
--8<--------------------
I rebuilt the initrd:
# update-initramfs -u
I rebooted and I got it almost perfect, which means I get a text login,
but after logging in, I can invoke 'startx' and now X runs fine.
My question now: how do I get X to launch automatically. I've just been
using good old Slackware for the last three months, and I've been
searching in vain for /etc/inittab. How does *buntu 10.04 do things?
Cheers from the sunny South of France,
Niki Kovacs
