Netbook suggestions?

I think the bottom line is how well it suits you and the way you want to 
use it.

As for Gateway, I have a Gateway 17" laptop that has worked flawlessly 
with Linux from the day I brought it home. I sit here reading about all 
the issues everyone seems to have with this bit or that bit and I 
haven't experienced any of that.
