Unable to open usb drive in ubuntu

Did you plug in the USB drive and then perform the command, since you
mention that you are able to see the drive icon and even its files but
is unable to read its content.

One way is to boot into Windows and copy its data out to your HDD and
then boot into Ubuntu to access the data.

By the way, what is the brand of the USB drive?
