incessant lockout screens with request for password

In System Settings > Screensaver (or System > Preferences > Screen
Saver if you are still using the 'classic' interface) clear the Lock
Screen checkbox and it will then not ask for the password.  Also if
you click Power Management from there then you can set how long it is
before the display is put to sleep.
