Installer crash on 11.11 Beta 1

I have tried to install 11.11 Beta 1 from CD but when it got to
"Checking Packages to remove" it crashed with a message asking me to
report a bug.  On closing that dialog it provided a button to report
the problem but then that failed due to problems with versions of
installed packages.

Any suggestions as to what I should do?  I looked on launchpad but
failed to find a similar problem.
