"Using gmane" advantage is IMHO that you can subscribe to a huge number 
of mailing lists without having them all bloating your mailbox.

Remember that gmane is accessible via NNTP (do you now Usenet?).

The web interface access is certainly not the point, I'd rather the NNTP 
one.
