Solutions for overheating with the new gnome ?

I'm not sure it's the new Gnome per se, as the subject implies.  I think
it's the new kernel.  Try using an older kernel.

I use xfce and find that the new kernel runs 5-10 degrees hotter than
previous ones.  I'm currently using 2.6.38-10-generic.
