How to "wake-up" 2nd monitor with oneiric 11.10?

Hi,

Prior to upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10, my kubuntu dual monitor
system worked OK, but would never "sleep", i.e., selecting "hibernate"
or "sleep" from the exit menu never worked. So, to conserve energy, I
would turn off both monitors overnight then turn them on in the
morning and resume working. Now, with 11.10, "sleep" does work, in
that the system and the monitors are suspended, but "unsleeping" does
not work because one monitor (the non-primary) will not display
anything on "wake up" until the system is rebooted. Worsening matters is
the same monitor will not display anything until reboot even when
I simply turn the monitors off (rather than "sleeping" them)
overnight. So now my only option is to leave everything on all the
time (almost ~300 Watts), or completely reboot every morning (PITA),
unless someone can answer the following question:

How does one "wake-up" the 2nd monitor with oneiric 11.10?
Is there a command that will do this? (switch to text console then
back to X, e.g., CTL-ALT-1 CTL-ALT-7 does not work).

A new error message on the text console that may be related is:

drm:radeon_dp_link_train_cr *ERROR* clock recovery reached max voltage
drm:radeon_dp_link_train_cr *ERROR* clock recovery failed

(yes, both monitors are displayport)
