Hi Jon,

You can use another application called unetbootin (sudo apt-get install 
unetbootin). This application allows you to specify the iso to be used 
and the contents of that iso will be extracted to your thumbdrive. It 
will also create a boot sector for the thumbdrive in order for it to be 
booted off.
