What version of Firefox? I am not up to speed on which versions of Ubuntu
have which versions of firefox but memory utilization is one of the
improvements that came along FF5 or FF6, IIRC. If you are not using FF7, you
should definitely try that (google on how to install the ppa for it).
Firefox is a known memory hog, at least on Linux. I left it in favor Google
Chrome sometime back (7.10?). But on my current local system (10.04 LTS /
4G / XFCE ), with FF7 and Chrome beta, Chrome is using signifcantly more
memory than FF. Each with a fair number tabs, and a large handful of
addons.
