[11.10-32Bit]-Ubuntu Is Very Slow-How To Fix?

Hi,

Ubuntu 11.10 32Bit release is very slow on my computer.
What can I do to make it faster?

Computer Specifications:
- Gateway NetBook
- 1.6GHz Intel Atom Dual Core CPU
- 2GB RAM
- 500GB HDD
- Host OS: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 7 Home Premium 32Bit
(Windows(R) Aero(R) enabled)
- Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.1.4 For Windows(R)
- Guest OS: Ubuntu 11.10 32Bit release
(1GB RAM / 128MB VRAM allocated to virtual machine - Guest Additions 
installed)
