How can I go back to Ubuntu classic from Unity in 11.10.

Additionally, if 3D is not supported, Ubuntu should default to Unity
2D anyway...

You can check this by opening a terminal and grepping for unity-2d

ps axf | grep -i unity-2d

if you're running 2d, you'll see things like unity-2d-panel.
