It came with Windows 7, but I blasted that right away.

Oddly, I get the opposite error message profile:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so cheese
and
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l1compat.so cheese
-> no error, upside-down
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so cheese
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD
cannot be preloaded: ignored.
and upside-down
