Reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10 it's a no go...

To answer your question, I am installing Ubuntu from a CD and the HD is not
sharing anything else on the ribbon cable...The DVD is on a separate
cable...

Since you've booted the live cd, mount the IDE drive with Disk Utility and
open /etc/fstab on that drive. Post the contents here, as well as the output
for:

 

sudo blkid
