Using imap or pop?  What version of evo?  What version of Ubuntu?

Can you go to where ever the mail is (your isp or other email provider)
with a browser and fix it there?

Deleting and re-installing evolution isn't going to change the state of
things on your email provider's server if you're using imap.  If you're
using pop, everything is local so nuking either ~/.evolution or
~/.local/share/evolution (depending on the Ubuntu and evolution version)
and a re-install *might* do the trick.
