Hi Douglas,
I too have experienced this problem with both firefox and evolution
(which was dropped in 11.10). I don't see why they can't push this
upstream so that the window height is set to 500-550px by default for
all applications that are not maximized. I have commented on the bug
that Colin Law has provided previously.
