In the "Linux Counter" site there are some statistics, but only for
registered users. If these are correlated with overall users the
statistics could give some information:

In the same site there is a breakdown but only for general linux users.

I've seen some talk on implementing some sort of statistic sending
when the Software Center or Synaptic is used, but there was also
criticism on privacy, and also that it would not be too indicative
because some people also install/update from local media (CDs or USB
disks) or local mirrors.
