Good luck on "curing" that... bios tends to check the condition of the
drive first, before attempting to boot it. Some would call it a feature
as opposed to a fault in the design. If you can turn that off, that
would be a new thing I learned today. All I can suggest is to boot off
of something else, and try to undo that security feature using hdparm,
since it is what broke it. Reading the man page, I can't see what good
it is supposed to do. But, hindsight is always 20/20! Yeah, I could see
getting a wild hair and playing with it. I blew the smoke out of a
perfectly good MultiSync playing with xvidtune, back when. I cried like
a little girl, too. So, I do feel your pain. :) Ric
